Right, here’s the thing. You walk into Acura thinking you want a sedan, and suddenly you’re staring at two that look like they’ve both had a strong cup of coffee and a long think about their purpose. The Integra® and the TLX® are not rivals in the traditional sense. They’re more like two answers to the same question, just delivered with very different attitudes. In San Diego, CA, that choice becomes less about “which is better” and more about “which one gets under your skin.”
Power and Pace: Light on Its Feet or Properly Planted
The Integra® is the eager one. It runs a 1.5L Turbocharged engine with 200 hp, and in the Type S, a 2.0L Turbo pushing 320 hp. It’s quick, responsive, and feels like it wants you to drive it, not just sitting there and steering.
TLX takes a different approach. The standard Turbocharged 2.0L engine offers a more composed, planted feel, while the Type S steps up with a 3.0L Turbo V6 that delivers proper shove. It’s not frantic. It’s confident. The kind of car that moves with purpose rather than urgency.
If you’re the sort who enjoys a winding road, the Integra® feels lighter and more playful. If you prefer something that feels nailed down at speed, the TLX® makes its case very quickly.
Cabin Experience: Focused vs Expansive
Inside, the Integra® keeps things tight and driver-focused. You get a 10.2-inch digital cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and controls that are exactly where you expect them to be. It’s simple, effective, and doesn’t try to impress you with nonsense.
The TLX® stretches out a bit. More space, more presence, and available Milano leather that gives it a properly upscale feel. The available ELS Studio® 3D audio system is excellent, the sort of thing you notice within seconds.
Both interiors are well built. The difference is how much room you want and how important that extra sense of refinement is to you.
Safety: No Surprises Here
Both cars come with AcuraWatch™, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Collision Mitigation Braking. It’s all there, it all works, and it doesn’t constantly nag you like an overcaffeinated driving instructor.
The TLX® adds available features like a Surround-View Camera System and parking sensors, which can be genuinely useful in tighter spots. Nothing revolutionary, just useful.
Design: Sharp Edge or Clean Suit
The Integra® looks like it’s ready to get moving even when parked. Hatchback shape, sharper lines, and that A-Spec styling give it a bit of attitude. It’s the one that says, “let’s go.”
The TLX® is calmer, more deliberate. Lower, wider, and with that Jewel Eye® lighting signature that gives it a proper presence. Type S adds just enough aggression without turning it into something shouty. One feels youthful. The other feels established. Both look good, just in different ways.
